Youth

The New Hampshire Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Program (TPCP) supports the efforts of youth programs at the local, State and National levels and the committed work they do to educate, empower and ignite youth to make their voices heard when they talk about tobacco.

If you are interested in becoming involved in a youth group or are just looking for information about what you can do to make your voice heard around tobacco issues, please visit one of the youth resources below.

Take a 1 Day Stand Against Tobacco The Tobacco-Free College Campus Initiative is encouraging campuses to take a 1Day Stand against tobacco on campus. The 1Day Stand calls upon college campuses to adopt a tobacco-free policy for one day.
By hosting a 1Day Stand event at your campus, you can start a conversation that ends in a healthier campus for all. Our goals for the event are to:

  • Encourage students who use tobacco to quit for the day, with an aim to quit for good
  • Raise awareness of the benefits of tobacco-free campus policies
  • Promote the adoption of permanent smoke- and tobacco-free campus policies

NCI launches smoking cessation support for teens
Smokefree TXT Text QUIT to IQUIT (47848)A new effort to help teens quit smoking will use one of today’s teen’s most constant companions—the mobile phone. Developed by smoking cessation experts, SmokefreeTXT is a free text message cessation service that provides 24/7 encouragement, advice, and tips to teens trying to quit smoking. The initiative is led by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health. Teens can sign up online at teen.smokefree.gov or text QUIT to iQUIT (47848).

SmokefreeTXT is a key component of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ efforts to develop mobile health programs and is one of the core features of the new Smokefree Teen initiative (teen.smokefree.gov), an extension of NCI’s smoking cessation website, smokefree.gov. Along with SmokefreeTXT, Smokefree Teen offers several social media pages to connect teens with cessation tools. In January 2012, Smokefree Teen will launch a free smartphone application, QuitSTART—an interactive quit guide for teens that delivers cessation and mood management tips, tracks cravings, and monitors quit attempts.
